Calculate →Understanding Your Health Metrics
Your health is your most valuable asset. To take control of your wellbeing, you need to understand the metrics that measure different aspects of health—from body composition and metabolic rate to cardiovascular fitness and nutritional balance. Health tracking has become increasingly accessible thanks to technology and education resources that help you understand what your numbers mean and how to improve them.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the most commonly used health metrics, but it's important to understand that it's just one indicator among many. BMI measures weight relative to height and can give you a general sense of whether your weight is in a healthy range according to population standards. However, BMI doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or body composition. A muscular athlete might have a "high" BMI despite being very healthy. This is why health professionals emphasize looking at multiple metrics together: body composition, cardiovascular fitness, metabolic markers, and how you feel day-to-day.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provide evidence-based guidelines for healthy ranges for various metrics. Our health calculators are designed to help you understand where you stand relative to these guidelines and track your progress over time. Whether you're managing weight, improving fitness, optimizing nutrition, or monitoring pregnancy health, having accurate calculations gives you the information you need to make informed decisions about your health with support from healthcare professionals.

Key Health Concepts
BMR vs TDEE
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns at rest just to maintain basic functions. Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) accounts for BMR plus all activity during the day. Understanding your TDEE helps you determine whether to increase, decrease, or maintain calorie intake for your goals.
Macronutrient Ratios
Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats each play crucial roles in your body. The optimal ratio depends on your goals, activity level, and individual needs. Common approaches include balanced ratios around 40-30-30, keto-style low-carb ratios, or high-carb approaches for endurance athletes.
Body Composition vs BMI
Body composition measures the ratio of muscle to fat, while BMI only looks at weight relative to height. Two people with the same BMI can have very different body compositions. Building muscle while losing fat can improve health even if the scale doesn't change much.
