What Is Salary?
A salary calculator converts your annual salary into different pay period amounts (monthly, biweekly, weekly, and hourly) and estimates your take-home pay after federal and state income taxes. It is an essential tool for understanding your true compensation and planning your budget.
Whether you are evaluating a job offer, comparing salaries, or planning household finances, this calculator provides a clear breakdown of what you earn across different time frames.
Formula & Methodology
The salary conversions use these formulas:
- Monthly Gross = Annual Salary / 12
- Biweekly Gross = Annual Salary / 26
- Weekly Gross = Annual Salary / 52
- Hourly Rate = Annual Salary / (52 × Hours Per Week)
- Annual Net = Annual Salary × (1 − (Federal Rate + State Rate) / 100)
- Monthly Net = Annual Net / 12
Note: This is a simplified estimate. Actual taxes use progressive brackets, and additional deductions (FICA, insurance, retirement) are not included.
Practical Examples
Example 1: A $75,000 salary with a 22% federal and 5% state tax rate: Monthly gross = $6,250. Hourly rate = $36.06 (at 40 hrs/week). Annual net = $54,750. Monthly net = $4,562.50.
Example 2: A $120,000 salary in Texas (0% state tax) with a 24% federal rate: Monthly gross = $10,000. Annual net = $91,200. Monthly net = $7,600.
